SD English Manga [09 Mar 2006|11:53am]

[ mood | curious ]

I have actually been wondering about this for awhile, but I thought it would be helpful to share this with the community:

Since it doesn't seem like Viz Media is going to be reprinting the manga anytime soon, I was wondering if anyone had any helpful sites that would help newer fans collect the many volumes of the series. In fact, I shamefully admit that this would especially help me, since other series have distracted me from ever finishing collecting Steam Detectives as a manga before it disappeared from the shelves. (I only have six volumes.)

But I digress... Here is where I usually tend to look:
Amazon.com - I'm unsure whether you can find the manga on retail these days, but I know that both used and new versions tend to spring up on the Marketplace. You can find some decent deals here, but be sure to check out the seller before purchasing. It's the safe thing to do.
Ebay.com - I bet that you saw this one coming. Here is another place were you can find good deals on the manga. But just like Amazon Marketplace, it is always a good idea to check out the seller before buying from them.
Albiris.com and other book-finders - I have used Albiris.com before, and have found it very helpful when I have to do some price comparison shopping. It can also give you other places to look on the internet, naturally, and expand your options. It's great for other manga series too!

If anyone uses other sites or know of any stores that still sell the Steam Detectives manga, then please share it with us!

For fans of the anime... [25 Jan 2006|10:05am]

[ mood | determined ]

The Steam Detectives complete collection (thinpack) came out on 1/10/2006 and is priced at around $49.98.

Another method to buying the whole collection would be to go to RightStuf and purchase each DVD (in its original form) individually from the Bargain Bin for only $4.99. This is the fairly cheaper way to go, and so I highly recommend it.

Okay, I don't know how many people know about this site, but I'm giving a link nevertheless. It's got potential, it needs work and it needs us. I'm not joining as of yet, but if we try, we can make this Steam Detectives site sparkle.

PS: vote for the mp3s because they have some songs from the albums, albeit only samples.

steam_city community invitations, away!

I'm debating on doing some banner advertising too, but I'm not sure of what communities would allow that.
Technically, you are not even supposed to advertise other communities on anime. But...

Imported Manga [26 Sep 2005|11:27am]

[ mood | chipper ]

Does anyone own any of the imported manga for Steam Detectives?

I have been thinking about it myself, but first, I really want to complete the English set before I start doing that. I'm ashamed to admit that I only own about 6 of them, but that is mostly because I used to collect them along with the chapters that were released in Animerica Extra. After they stopped delivering Animerica Extra to my local Suncoast store, I have since lost track and it is been very frusting for me.

I remember seeing the TV guidebook at Otakon a long time ago, as well, but at the time it was too pricey for me to buy on top of everything else. I'm hoping to find it again someday.

Did you guys ever notice the different covers of the Shuueisha and Media Works covers? The English manga has the Shuueisha covers, but the Media Works covers are really cool, too. You can get a look at them at JPQueen if you are really curious.

Meanwhile, I'm sorry I'm not very good at answering any OST/Drama CD questions, but perhaps this might be something even better...?

Hey everyone. I really wish the comm was a little more busy, but alas...
Anyway, I was wondering, does anyone have the OST? I had the album, but my ass of a brother LOST it.

I'm particularly looking for the track called Blue.
Anyone have it?

Steam Detectives figurines [19 Sep 2005|08:56pm]

[ mood | curious ]

A long time ago, I remembered seeing some legitimate Steam Detectives figures of Goriki and Ling-Ling (for certain), and possibly Narutaki. They are usually a little hard to find since they are imported, but you can usually find them at websites that carry a large plethora of anime series. There is also eBay, but I haven't really been searching for them there lately, and so I'm not sure if you can find them there or not.

Has anyone seen them anywhere? Or if you are really lucky, do you have them yourself?

Steam Detectives poster sighting! [24 Aug 2005|01:25am]

[ mood | cheerful ]

When I was attending Otakon this past weekend, I caught sight of a poster of Ling Ling and Narutaki on a white backdrop being sold for only around $9.

I found it at the Anime Palace booth, and it would be great if the offer were running off of their website too. Anyone interested should probably check things out once they take a few days to return back to their home store in Columbus, OH.

Also, please plug away at this site. I love it too much to see it become so quiet like this.

Fishing for trouble... [06 Feb 2005|04:41pm]

Sent out a boatload of invitations to anyone with 'steam detectives' listed as their interest this afternoon. If the majority of these journals aren't dead, then we might be on to something.

Come and get it!

Machine Baron stole my sanity! [06 Feb 2005|03:50pm]

[ mood | productive ]

Don't think that I have forgotten about this place!

In fact, I'm still trying to think of ways to promote this community, since a lot of the anime-related communities forbid advertising. But if anyone can help me out, then I'd be happy to have you.

In other news, there are some lovely specials going on at Right Stuf. Right now, they are having a sale on all Viz merchandise. All graphic novels and DVDs are 40% off until 2/13, so don't let this deal go to waste if you want to get a good deal on the novels!

They are also having a weekly special on Steam Detectives DVDs 1-3 by ADV! Buy each DVD for only $8.99! That's a huge step down from the $29.95 retail price.

And finally, for anyone that is interested, I made my very own banner for this place:

Sorry, I know it looks better on a white background... ^^;

Put it in your profile or where ever you like! Help to promote our lil' corner of the web.
I'll be putting it in the community profile very soon, so keep an eye out for that too.

Graphic Novels Coming Out [18 Mar 2004|10:39pm]

[ mood | bouncy ]

According to Barnes&Noble.com and Amazon.com, Steam Detectives #7 was released on 11 March (haven't seen it yet ~_~) and Steam Detectives #8 will be released on 9 June.

Which is kind of odd considering that #6 was released last June. o_O

Food for thought... or something. [27 Jan 2004|03:58pm]

[ mood | random ]

Things are still looking pretty dead, but I'm not about to give up quite yet!

After a long winter break, I was finally able to finish watching the max of my fansubs and also my first volume of Steam Detectives.
I still think that the Machine Baron is a real ham in both the anime and manga, and so he still stands along my favorite characters from the series. - Let's all hear it for gear love! XD

*Coughs* Anyway, I still love the voice of Narutaki from the day that I had watched my first fansubbed episode of the series. It has a perfect touch of youth and maturity, and so I think that it is very fitting of his character; but does anyone know just how old he really is? It is something that I have been wondering for quite awhile now.

There is also one last thing I want to mention: Steam Detectives may seem to have a rare fandom, but have you ever caught the rare cosplayer? I remember seeing a Ling-Ling at Otakon 2000 in or near the autograph line that year, and I'll try to dig that picture up for you guys to enjoy. But if you have seen anyone else, then please don't hesitate to post it.

- Spread the word, kids! We need to get this community booming! -

Introduction and Steam Detectives TV [12 Oct 2003|12:42am]

[ mood | excited ]

Ack! It has been such a long time since I was able to modify the journal info again. You see, I had forgotten the password to it, and so I had found myself in quite a fix. But since I still had maintainership rights to it, I was able to play around with it enough to fix all the small problems. So in other words, we're back in business! Yay~!

But anyway, I'd like to welcome anyone who decides to drop by. This community is just starting out officially, and so things may seem a little slow at the moment. Still, feel free to send in your posting and comments, as every little bit counts.

To help start things off, who is waiting for the first release of the Steam Detectives TV series on DVD?

The release date has been set for October 21st, and ADV is the one to release it domestically. - Having seen the first episode of the series through the magic of fansubbing, I am eagerly awaiting its arrival. Each character seems to be portrayed in just the right amount of style, and so it should be an easy transition for those of you who are more used to manga version.
